Who We Are
Started in 1980, the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) is a grant-funded organization supported primarily by the US Department of Justice through the Bureau of Justice Assistance. NW3C is a non-profit, membership affiliated organization comprised of state and local law enforcement, prosecutorial, and regulatory agencies. We provide a nationwide support system to state and local law enforcement for the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of economic and high-tech crime.

To provide training, investigative support, and research to law enforcement agencies and related entities involved in the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of economic and high-tech crime.
Position Overview
The Research Associate is involved in the development, implementation, and oversight of a broad range of applied social science research activities that further the organization’s mission to help identify, and reduce, the occurrence of financial crime and cyber-crime through training, research, and investigative support services.
Personal Qualifications
The right candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, have a commitment to a client service environment, possess a team-oriented work ethic and be able to make appropriate decisions independently. Must be highly organized, capable of effectively managing multiple priorities/projects, able to meet tight deadlines, able to maintain confidentiality and able to manipulate data at advanced level using data analysis software and relational databases.
Specific Responsibilities
- Perform quantitative and qualitative research
- Conduct scholarly research utilizing appropriate manual and automated research techniques
- Manage/oversee research projects
- Prepare technical and scholarly reports on research projects and on a wide range of economic and high technology crime issues
- Respond to requests for information on economic and high technology crime from member agencies and the general public
- Monitor and analyze changes in economic and high technology crime research issues
- Prepare reports that may be used for publication in technical or professional journals, for presentation to agency requesting project, or for use in further applied or theoretical research activities
- Represent NW3C at professional conferences and other relevant public forums
- Perform special projects as required within the established time frame
- As necessary, coordinates with other NW3C employees assigned to the special project
- Make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, board of directors and other contacts
- Analyze, conceptualize and define research ideas
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, with significant coursework in one or more of the following areas is required: social sciences, criminal justice/criminology, and statistics/research methods.
- Practical experience with the Internet is required.
- Experience with federal, state and local law enforcement, judicial systems, investigative techniques, law enforcement operations, other justice programs and related activities is desired.
- Experience with various computer, office and peripheral equipment is required.
- Knowledge or practical experience related to white-collar crime (to include financial crime and cyber-crime) issues is desired.
