Frequently Asked Questions

What is NW3C?
The mission of NW3C is to provide a nationwide support system for agencies involved in the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of economic and high-tech crimes and to support and partner with other appropriate entities in addressing homeland security initiatives, as they relate to economic and high-tech crimes.

What type of information is available to the press?
Members of the media may use the public website, under the “Research” tab, to access NW3C’s recent initiatives, papers, publications, reports and The White Collar Crime Research Consortium. Many of the most frequently asked media questions can be answered with information you can easily find in these pages.

Can you discuss current investigations?
NW3C does not answer questions about current, ongoing investigations. Once an NW3C assisted case has completely worked its way through the law enforcement and judicial system, researchers may be able to discuss those cases, under some circumstances. Requests involving such cases will be considered on a case by case basis. NW3C reserves the right to refuse any interview request at anytime, without citing its reason for doing so.

How can I find statistics on white collar crime in my area?
Most of the crime information you will find on the website quotes national trends and statistics. NW3C is the “National White Collar Crime Center” and most of the information we deal with involves nationwide statistics. You may be able to access FBI statistics, released on a yearly basis, for state by state information.

May I interview a researcher or fraud analyst?
In some cases, media members may be able to interview one of NW3C’s analysts, according to the type of story or report. Such requests will be considered on a case by case basis and NW3C reserves the right to deny requests, without stating a specific reason.

How do I contact NW3C if I have a question that is not answered here?
